August 29, 2020 Market Newsletter

Vol. 6 Issue 18

It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of August.  It seems like only yesterday that it started.  🙂  School will be (or has already) started back up.  We hope all the children, teachers, and administrators have a wonderful school year even if it’s in the classroom or online.

Great News!
Thai Amity Kitchen will be back this weekend!!!  We are looking forward to having their delicious meals prepared fresh for us at the market.

As the market continues we would like to remind our customers that they must wear a mask the entire time they are at the market.  We also need to ask that you tell the vendors what your order will be and they will pick it out for you.  It’s for everyone’s health and safety.

The market is now open from 9am until 1pm! With meal delivery service, especially as the world continues to observe social distancing because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it makes you avoid going shopping regularly. Similarly, the ingredients and cooking instructions delivery services make cooking healthy meals more convenient since there is no preparation involved.

Volunteers Needed
We are in need of volunteers to help guide our customers through the market between 8:45am to 1:00pm!  If you or anyone you know would be willing to help for a few hours, please click HERE or email Scarlet at hfmscarlet@gmail.com.  All volunteers must be 18 years or older.

The Market‘s Covid-19 guidelines

  • If you are coming to the market for just one vendor, please enter the market by the charging station and follow the guidance of our volunteers.
  • Please tell the vendors what you would like to order and they will pick the products for you. Please do not touch the produce.
  • Keep a distance of 6ft between you and the vendor and the next customer.

Vol. 6 Issue 15

National Farmers Market Week

We are so excited to celebrate National Farmers Market Week August 2-8th with you! Despite challenges never experienced before, the national farmers market community has showcased resilience in our rapidly changing world. Farmers markets have always been a hub for innovation, and we have been at the forefront of adapting rapid solutions to protect staff, customers, and our community in this time of crisis. More than ever before, National Farmers Week is an opportunity to showcase the value of farmers markets in our communities.

We know that Farmers markets are essential businesses—the COVID 19 pandemic made it clear that local food systems with short supply chains are resilient and dependable in making food available to their communities. We also know that farmers markets are safe! Emerging research supports conventional wisdom in that outdoor marketplaces like farmers markets are often safer than alternative indoor retailers due to unlimited air circulation, sunlight, the flexibility to enforce social distancing by spreading out vendors and products, and the innovative strategies market operators have implemented. We wouldn’t be able to continue to operate without our amazing team of market support.

New Vendors
Welcome Smitty’s Snacks this Saturday! You’ll find a variety of flavored nuts, like Old Bay, mesquite, red habanero and their newest seasoning- Taco. They have a free Saturday this weekend so be sure to stop by!  We may see them again later in the season.
Next weekend we would like to welcome Profish- a DC Seafood Wholesaler.  Make sure to check out next week’s newsletter for more information!

Walk thru market from this week!

Vol. 6 Issue 8

Happy Father’s Day!
Make sure you shop at the market to pick up what you’ll need for a Father’s Day cookout!  Our vendors have a great selection to choose from to find the perfect gift.Walk Thru!
This weekend we will begin our walk thru market! We know our customers and vendors have been eager for this day and hope that it will run smoothly.

There will be lots of activities including a special event with classic cars and rvs for sale, such as the 2020 Airstream Flying Cloud for sale at Airstream of Santa Barbara and  the money will be used to help donations for the upcoming farmers market.

Just a few notes:
The market‘s entrance will be by the car charging station and the exit will be by the woods.  A map of the layout is below.  Also, each customer must wear a mask. Our volunteer at the entrance will not allow for customers to enter unless they are wearing a mask.  Please keep 6ft between you and other customers.  Please come alone (if possible) and leave children and pets at home.  If you enter the market from the dirt path by Rhode Island Avenue, please walk along the grass to the market‘s entrance.  Please shop with your eyes and allow the vendors to pick your items for you.  They will always pick the best.  :),

Returning Vendor:
This week we welcome Twin Valley Distillery back!  Starting in August, they will be at the market the second and fourth Saturday of each month but are making a special appearance this week.

Volunteers
We are still in need of volunteers (18 and older) to help direct traffic and to check customers in for the market each weekend. The shifts will be on Saturday from 8:45am to 12:15pm.  Please click HERE to sign up for a shift. If you have any questions please let Scarlet hfmscarlet@gmail.com know.

Thai Amity Kitchen
Many customers have asked about our longtime vendor- Thai Amity Kitchen.  The Department of Permits, Inspection, and Enforcement (DPIE) has asked that markets have all prepared food pre-made in a commercial kitchen and then kept warm at the market for pick up from the customer.  Amity makes their food fresh at the market and will have to wait until DPIE has given the okay for them to come back.  You can find them on Facebook at Thai Amity Kitchen.
