Vol. 9 Issue 24

At this point the weather is looking a little cold and rainy for tomorrow’s market.  No worries.  With hot coffee from Alcoba Coffee, hot Pad Thai  from Amity Kitchen and hot pupusas from Pupuseria & Taqueria El Solectto- we will surely stay warm.  Looking forward to seeing everyone!

A note from Waltz Family Farm:
I finally have Thanksgiving Turkey info and pricing!  We all know how costs have gone up & turkey feed has as well.  Whispering Breeze Farm is offering Turkeys to us at a very good price.  These turkeys will be fresh and ready for pick-up at the Hollywood Farmers Market in College Park on November 18th   from 9am-1pm.  Keep them in the coldest part of your fridge or on ice and they’ll be great till  Thanksgiving or the Friday/Saturday after.  If having a Thanksgiving meal later, then I’d freeze them.

Fresh Whole Turkeys – $6.40lb *$20 deposit (non-refundable) is required.  Come to the market to order and give deposit.
Sizes are  SMALL TURKEYS 13-16 lb  serves 4-6 people,  MEDIUM TURKEYS 17-20 lb serves 7-10,
LARGE TURKEYS 21-24lb serves 12-16 people   X-LARGE TURKEYS 25lbs+ serves 17-22
If you are having another meat then the turkey would serve more

Turkey  Breasts boneless, average weight 4-5lbs for $11.50 lb
Turkey Legs $7.50 lb
Turkey Thighs $12.50 lb
*no wings this year
I’d like orders by Saturday Oct. 28th.   There’s a good chance Waltz Family Farm will not be at the Hollywood Farmers Market on November 4th – we will be at Cheverly Community Market & another event near our farm.  If you are not ordering a whole bird you can email me your Turkey Order – tell me how many of what item and leave your phone #.  I will respond once I write your order down. You will get a reminder email  for pickup.

Did you know we accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits so customers can purchase fresh produce and locally made products at our market? To use SNAP benefits, customers can swipe their EBT cards at our Maryland Market Money table. We will charge the card for any amount requested in exchange for tokens that can be spent with eligible vendors.  Through the Maryland Market Money program, the market will also match up to $30 in SNAP benefits spent at the market – so a $10 charge on a customer’s EBT card will give them $20 to spend!  Many of our vendors also accept Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) checks. Checks can be used to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, cut herbs, and honey. These checks are spent directly with vendors who are registered to accept the checks as payment, and then those vendors will write the customer a receipt. If the customer brings the receipt to the market table, we will match up to $10 in FMNP spending with additional Maryland Market Money tokens. Bringing a $10 FMNP check to the market can allow a customer to spend $20!

The College Park Community Food Bank and Hollywood farmers market are partnering on a canned food drive. Bring your unexpired canned goods to the market and leave them at the market management tent. Look for the tall white bag with the College Park Community Food Bank logo on it.

This Saturday is going to start off a little rainy.  No worries, the market will still be open and the sun is expected to come out a little later in the day! Also, we have the perfect schedule for you- shop at the market until 1pm and then head over to College Park Day for the afternoon.  What a perfect way to spend your Saturday.  🙂
Make sure you shop for wonderful fall favorites at Montoya Farm‘s stand and Blue Berwyn Farm.  Waltz Family Farm has a wide selection of meats, cheeses and eggs.  Thai Amity Kitchen will be at College Park Day this weekend but you can still get delicious pupusas, tacos and quesadillas at Pupuseria & Taqueria El Solectto.
