It will be a beautiful end of summer Saturday at the Hollywood Farmers Market tomorrow. Summer is fading fast. Fall is only one week away so get you late summer fruits and vegetables while you still can! This Saturday at the Hollywood Farmers Market Montoya Farm and Blue Berwyn Farm have your favorite local late summer produce. Corn, Melons, Tomatoes, Beans, Squash, Zucchini, Carrots, Onions, Leafy Greens, Peaches, and  Apples are at the market this Saturday. Local Honey gifts and crafts are available from Honey Glow. Be sure to visit Oat.Chocolate for fresh home baked pastries, breads, granola, and cookies. Need something to cook on the grill this weekend? Look no further than Waltz Family Farms for fresh locally raised meats. Shop Two Oceans Seafood this week for restaurant-quality, wild caught frozen seafood. Their offerings include wild caught salmon, halibut, cod, and mahi-mahi. Waltz Farms is stocked up. Visit Pupuseria & Taqueria El Solectto for freshly made to order agua frescas, pupusas and tacos. Don’t miss the spring rolls and Pad Thai at Thai Amity Kitchen.

Did you know we accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits so customers can purchase fresh produce and locally made products at our market? To use SNAP benefits, customers can swipe their EBT cards at our Maryland Market Money table. We will charge the card for any amount requested in exchange for tokens that can be spent with eligible vendors.  Through the Maryland Market Money program, the market will also match up to $30 in SNAP benefits spent at the market – so a $10 charge on a customer’s EBT card will give them $20 to spend!  Many of our vendors also accept Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) checks. Checks can be used to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, cut herbs, and honey. These checks are spent directly with vendors who are registered to accept the checks as payment, and then those vendors will write the customer a receipt. If the customer brings the receipt to the market table, we will match up to $10 in FMNP spending with additional Maryland Market Money tokens. Bringing a $10 FMNP check to the market can allow a customer to spend $20!

The College Park Community Food Bank and Hollywood farmers market are partnering on a canned food drive. Bring your unexpired canned goods to the market and leave them at the market management tent. Look for the tall white bag with the College Park Community Food Bank logo on it.

Last Saturday, our dear friend Farmer Pam Stegall, with Calvert Farm, was sitting in her office when suddenly neighbors were banging on her door.  She looked outside to see her barn was engulfed in flames.  The fire was put out but she lost everything that was in there, all the farm equipment, etc.  If you would like to support Pam please come speak to Aaron, Julie or Laurie.  We can give you her address.
